Jamie Lee Curtis Honours Rob Reiner at Emmys After Posthumous Win
Jamie Lee Curtis led the Emmy Awards In Memoriam to remember Rob Reiner as "our beloved 'Meathead'" and a "cherished legend."
The segment, meaning the part of the ceremony that remembers industry figures who have died, was built around Curtis's speech. She called Reiner "generous and kind and funny as hell and a friend to all," according to Variety.
Singer Noah Kahan performed during the tribute. He sang Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" with string players backing him as photographs of those who had died were shown.
Reiner was honoured after a posthumous win. He received the Emmy for outstanding guest actor in a comedy series, meaning an award for a short appearance rather than a regular role, for FX's "The Bear" on the second night of the Creative Arts Awards.
That win closed a gap of 48 years. Reiner first won an Emmy for best supporting actor in 1974 for playing Michael "Meathead" Stivic in "All in the Family." He won again in 1978.
His third acting win broke the record for the longest span between acting Emmy wins. The previous holder was his father, Carl Reiner.
The winning role was one of his last on screen. Reiner played Albert in "The Bear," with the credit listed as Albert in the episode "Tonnato" on FX/Hulu from FX Productions, according to the Television Academy. The Academy's ballot describes Albert as a business adviser whom Ebraheim seeks help from.
Curtis has her own connection to the show. She is listed as an Emmy nominee associated with "The Bear" on the Television Academy website.
Reiner died in December 2025 at age 78. He and his wife Michele were allegedly stabbed to death in their Brentwood home by their son Nick Reiner.
Nick Reiner was indicted by a Los Angeles County grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder. The indictment includes the special circumstances of "lying in wait" and "multiple murders." He is being held at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility.
Television's tribute followed earlier remembrances. Reiner was honoured in the In Memoriam section at the 2026 Oscars in a tribute led by Billy Crystal. He was also honoured at the 2026 Critics Choice Awards, where host Chelsea Handler closed her opening monologue with remarks about him.
