Emmys In Memoriam Leaves Out Chuck Norris, Nicholas Brendon and Others

Chuck Norris and Nicholas Brendon were among the names not shown on screen during the televised In Memoriam at the 78th Emmy Awards.

The official segment left out Norris, Brendon, Patrick Muldoon, Jaye P. Morgan, Daveigh Chase and Grizz Chapman, according to Variety. Norris died at age 86 on 20 March 2026. Brendon died at age 56 of natural causes on the same day, according to People.

The omission from the broadcast does not mean an omission from the record. People left out of the televised tribute can be found on the Television Academy's website In Memoriam page. The Academy says it accepts suggestions for inclusion on that list, according to the Television Academy.

The televised tribute, which honours television actors, directors and other industry figures who died in the past year, opened with a tribute to Catherine O'Hara. That opening was hosted by Annie Murphy, Dan Levy and Macaulay Culkin.

Dolly Parton and Rob Reiner each received a separate segment within the In Memoriam. Tim Curry, Hayden Panettiere and costume designer Bob Mackie were also featured. Mackie died on Monday, the same day as the Emmy ceremony.

Noah Kahan performed Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water" as names and photographs appeared on screen.

The Academy had already presented a Night One In Memoriam on 5 September 2026, with video published on 8 September, according to the Television Academy. The main ceremony followed a nominations season led by "The Pitt" with 25 nominations and "Hacks" with 24, a single-year record for a comedy, according to Reuters.

For fans, this means the broadcast is only part of the remembrance. The full list lives online, and it can still change.
