Yves Bissouma on verge of joining Ajax after Tottenham exit

Yves Bissouma is in Amsterdam finalising a move to Ajax.

The 30-year-old has agreed a deal until the end of the season, with the option of a further 12 months, according to BBC. He is available for nothing after leaving Tottenham Hotspur in June.

Bissouma is a defensive midfielder, the player who sits in front of the defence to win the ball and start attacks. He is a Mali international with 46 caps, according to Goal.

It is a fresh start after a difficult end in north London. Bissouma joined Spurs from Brighton in 2022 and went on to make 111 appearances for the club. Tottenham later confirmed his departure following the conclusion of his contract, as noted by Tottenham Hotspur.

His last season told the story. He played 11 times, all in the Premier League. In August 2025, manager Thomas Frank left him out of the squad to face Paris St-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup because of persistent lateness.

There were still flashes of his best away from club football. In December, he made his first start in seven months for Mali against Morocco. His previous start had been the Europa League final win over Manchester United, according to Tottenham Hotspur.

Ajax were not the only admirers. De Telegraaf reported that the Dutch club were one of a number of sides keen on the midfielder, via OneFootball.
