House Democrat Seeks Records on Russian Oligarch's Funding of Trump Jr. Wedding Events
Rep. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, has asked the White House and Donald Trump Jr. for records tied to the funding of Trump Jr.'s wedding celebrations by Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev, according to reporting published on Sept. 15, 2026. The Guardian
Garcia sent a letter dated Sept. 14, 2026, to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles concerning Kremlev and Trump Jr. House Oversight Democrats In that letter, he asked Wiles to provide documents, records and communications between the White House and Trump Jr. about Kremlev. The request is narrow on one point. It focuses on White House communications. The scope around the underlying events is broader.
According to the Sept. 14 letter, the wedding celebrations referenced took place on May 24, 2026, in the Bahamas. Kremlev paid to rent out one of the private islands used for those celebrations.
Garcia sent a separate letter to Trump Jr. seeking details about wedding events bankrolled by Kremlev. In it, he asked Trump Jr. to provide all dates of communication between Trump Jr. and Kremlev and any communications Trump Jr. had with the White House about Kremlev. He also asked Trump Jr. for financial records of purchases made by foreign nationals connected to the events and a complete list of wedding gifts from foreign nationals.
The inquiry follows reporting by ProPublica that Kremlev spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on wedding celebrations for Trump Jr. and his wife Bettina earlier this year. Axios was the first to report on Garcia's letters. Kremlev is described as a Russian oligarch who paid for a portion of the celebrations. He is linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin and is the chief of the International Boxing Association.
