Cody Johnson climbs back into Hot Country Songs top 10
Cody Johnson is back in the top 10. His single “Take Me Back (Leave Me There)” climbs three places to No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart dated Sept. 19, the chart that combines streams, sales and radio play in the United States.
The move was powered by streaming. The track drew 7.5 million official U.S. streams in the week of Sept. 4-10, up 19%, according to Luminate, the data company that feeds Billboard’s charts Billboard.
It is Johnson’s sixth top 10 on Hot Country Songs. The song was written by Kelly Archer, Troy Cartwright and Pete Good, and comes from Banks of the Trinity, his 16-track 10th studio album.
That album started fast. It debuted at No. 8 on Top Country Albums in June, giving Johnson his sixth top 10 on that albums chart.
The chart news follows awards season momentum. Johnson picked up four nominations for the CMA Awards announced on Sept. 10: entertainer of the year, male artist, single and video.
Two high-profile collaborations also arrive on the same chart. Kane Brown’s “Boots” featuring Shania Twain opens at No. 36 with 2.5 million first-week streams and 1,000 copies sold. It is Brown’s 47th entry on Hot Country Songs and Twain’s 35th.
Lower down, Mumford & Sons and Chris Stapleton’s “Here” starts at No. 45 with 2.2 million streams. It is the British band’s first appearance on Hot Country Songs.
“Here” opens Prizefighter, Mumford & Sons’ sixth studio album. The song had already spent two weeks at No. 1 in July on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, which measures plays on adult alternative radio stations.
What makes this stand out is the traffic in both directions. A country star holds the top 10 on growing streams, while a British folk-rock band and a pop-country veteran enter the same chart alongside him. For listeners, it means the Sept. 19 list covers a lot of ground.
