Margaret Qualley’s Love of Your Life reaches Prime Video on Oct. 14 after its Toronto festival premiere, according to Variety. Amazon MGM Studios will give the film a brief run in cinemas before it moves to streaming. That is the plan.
The story centres on Maya, played by Qualley. Her new marriage is struck by tragedy and she sets out on a journey around the world, according to Deadline. Variety describes the wider theme as COVID-era loss, recovery and renewal. The film stays with Maya as that journey takes her far from home.
Gabriel Basso plays Charlie opposite Qualley, with Catherine Keener as Ruth, Charlie’s mother, according to Variety. Patrick Schwarzenegger plays Jason, Maya’s longtime best friend. Aaron Pierre also co-stars, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Those credits come from the early reviews.
The film is directed by Rachel Morrison. She was Oscar-nominated for her cinematography, the work of camera and lighting, on Mudbound, according to Variety. Julia Cox wrote the screenplay, the script that sets dialogue and story structure. Todd Benhazl served as cinematographer, the person who leads the camera department.
Four publications published reviews out of Toronto. Variety published its review on Sept. 16, The Hollywood Reporter published on Sept. 15, and Deadline and IndieWire both published on Sept. 14. The Hollywood Reporter called the film a romantic travelogue, a love story told through travel. IndieWire described it as a lush and tender romantic drama.
The Toronto premiere came about a month before the Oct. 14 streaming date, according to Variety. A festival premiere means the first public screening before release. A brief theatrical run means selected cinemas show the film before it is available to watch at home.
