Drake has premiered FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), the film he has been teasing since August.

The premiere was confirmed on 16 September. Drake had set 15 September as the release date, with the launch fixed for 9 p.m. ET that evening. Billboard

He is calling it “a not so short film”. He is also calling it “self funded surrealism”, a phrase that points to a project paid for by the artist himself rather than a studio. Pitchfork

That wording matters. A short film usually means a film made at a shorter length than a cinema feature. Self-funded means the costs sit with the maker. Here, Drake is telling viewers to expect something longer than a music video and made on his own terms.

The build-up started in August. On 12 August, he posted a carousel with the caption ‘FOMO 2026’ alongside vintage photographs of his mother. Billboard Canada

That post opened a month of drip-feed promotion. Drake then released a teaser for Fear of Missing Out and named 15 September as the arrival date. Variety Details about the timing followed in September, locking in the evening launch.

What makes this stand out is the framing. Drake did not present FOMO as a single, an album or a video in the usual sense. He presented it as a film, with its own title, teaser and premiere time.

For fans, this means the wait is over. The teasing that began with family photographs in August has ended with a finished film in September. The title is spelt out. The date has passed. The work is out.
