Tice Cin returns with Safe Spaces, a second novel of music and grief

Tice Cin is back with a second novel about a young musician living with grief. Safe Spaces, the follow-up to Keeping the House from 2021, is due from Granta Books in September 2026. The Guardian published its review on 16 September 2026.

Granta Books secured the book after a four-way auction, meaning four publishers bid for the rights. The Bookseller reported the deal in September 2025, with publication scheduled for September 2026. It is Cin's sophomore novel, the trade term for a second book.

The story centres on an unnamed narrator, a young Turkish-Cypriot songwriter and music producer. The narration stays in the first person throughout. No one is named.

The narrator's closest confidante is known only as "My Favourite Person". His death sits at the centre of the novel. The narrative moves around that loss and what remains after it.

The Guardian described the book as at once an elegy, a spoken-word poem and a journalistic meditation. Granta describes it as a book evoking the shattering effect of trauma on prose, while reconstructing a way to experience life and talk about love, according to its publisher page. Granta

That publisher page lists Cin as living between North London and North Cyprus. The deal coverage described the novel as infused with the rhythms and musicality of London's club scenes. The Southbank Centre bills it as a portrait of the artist as a young musician.
