Alexa+ Arrives in India With Hindi-English Conversation
Amazon has made Alexa+, its conversational assistant, available to everyone in India in Hindi and English under Early Access, according to the launch report. TechCrunch
Pricing follows the Prime bundle model. After the early testing period ends, Alexa+ will be free for Prime customers in India. Customers without Prime will pay ₹2,000 per month ($20.85).
The main change is language handling. Alexa+ can hold longer conversations and remember earlier details, what engineers call maintaining context. Users can switch between English and Hindi in the middle of a sentence, and the assistant replies in a more expressive voice.
That memory helps with tasks that take several steps. Amazon's help documentation describes Alexa+ as the newest version of Alexa, currently available only in English and Hindi. Users can turn on bilingual Hindi and English mode by voice command. The system was unveiled with generative AI, the type of AI that creates responses rather than reading fixed scripts, with the ability to store user preferences, make reservations and connect to Amazon products. In India, those abilities connect directly to services where users can buy or book things. Alexa+ can order groceries from Amazon's quick commerce service Amazon Now. It can turn smart home devices on and off. Local integrations include food delivery service Swiggy, Zomato's ticket booking platform District, travel sites TripAdvisor and MakeMyTrip, restaurant reservation app EazyDiner, and music streaming from Amazon Music and JioSaavn.
The rollout closes a gap from three months ago. As of June 22, 2026, Alexa+ was not available in India. Amazon was then testing Alexa+ in India with Hindi support, with no launch date disclosed.
India follows a pattern seen in other countries. Amazon launched Alexa+ in Australia, where it was free during Early Access, free for Prime members afterward, and AU$29.99 per month for non-Prime customers. About Amazon Amazon's Devices news page also lists Alexa+ as available to everyone in the U.S. and fully available across Canada, free for Prime members in both cases.
The broader context here is worth noting. In my view, the mid-sentence switching between Hindi and English is the detail to watch. Everyday Hinglish, what linguists call code-switching, breaks many systems built for one language at a time. It strains intent classification, or working out what the user wants, slot filling, or pulling out key details, and speech rhythm in the same sentence. Getting it right depends less on adding a language pack and more on holding onto meaning across mixed-language turns. The list of integrations points the same way. Ordering, booking, reservations and device control are agentic actions, steps the assistant takes on your behalf, not simple questions and answers. They depend on remembered preferences and third-party connections working when requests are messy. Prime bundling lowers the cost of trying it regularly. If the assistant holds context reliably in Hindi and English, it makes hands-free shopping and home control practical for households that never used only one language.
