Kakao Entertainment has agreed a strategic partnership with Walt Disney Company Korea built around about 10 joint projects.

The company announced the deal on 16 September through its newsroom, according to Music Business Worldwide. The plan pairs K-pop IP with Disney stories and characters. IP is shorthand for intellectual property, the rights in an artist’s music, name, image and characters that can be used across releases, shows and products.

The projects will run over the mid to long term. They will span music, content, commerce and live entertainment, among other areas. That list is broad by design. It covers records and video, retail products and concerts.

No titles or artists were named. No release dates were given.

Kakao and Disney Korea are also discussing further collaboration. That includes the possible creation of a fund tentatively called the “K-culture fund”.

The fund is only in discussion. Kakao did not disclose how large it might be, what it would back, or when it might be established.

For fans, this means waiting for details. A partnership announcement confirms intent and scope. The songs, shows, products and live dates come later, once individual projects are organised and cleared.
