HBO Max orders French medical drama Rush and horror-thriller Bodycam
HBO Max has ordered two new French series, a Paris emergency-medicine drama called Rush and a police horror-thriller working under the title Bodycam.
Both shows were unveiled at the Festival de la Fiction in La Rochelle, according to Variety. Both are due to start shooting this fall.
Rush will run for eight episodes of 45 minutes. Set inside Paris' emergency medical service, it follows three doctors as they race to emergencies across the French capital.
The series was created and written by Nils-Antoine Sambuc. American producer Neal Baer, whose credits include ER, is attached as an associate producer, Variety reported.
Bodycam takes a different route. The eight-part series will have 30-minute episodes that blend police drama with horror, a mix rarely tried in French prime-time fiction.
The story follows two beat cops who shoot and wound an unarmed teenager, according to Deadline. It was created by Timothée Hochet and Benjamin Adam in collaboration with Mehdi Ouahab, and Bodycam remains a working title.
The two commissions sit on the HBO Max France slate overseen by Clémentine Bobin, director of original fiction for HBO Max France.
What makes this stand out is the contrast. One series is organised around doctors and ambulances in daylight Paris, the other around night patrols and something darker. For viewers, this means two short, self-contained French programmes arriving from the same streamer but built for very different nights in.
