Almost 150,000 tracks are uploaded to streaming platforms every day.

That is the figure given by Luminate chief executive Rob Jonas in an interview with Billboard published on 16 September. Jonas discussed the number on Billboard's music business podcast On the Record, which covers chart data and industry trends. Billboard

The pace is faster than before. Since about 2022, Luminate and other industry groups had cited a figure of more than 100,000 songs uploaded daily. Jonas described the move to close to 150,000 a day as a material increase.

That is a lot of music. At 150,000 tracks a day, more than a million new recordings arrive in a week.

The interview also included new figures around creation using artificial intelligence. A 2025 investor pitch deck for Suno, obtained by Billboard, states that around 7 million songs are generated every day on Suno's platform. Separately, Deezer reported receiving 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks daily at a peak level in June 2026, which it said was more than 50% of new music uploads.

Jonas also spoke about older music and how it is heard. Luminate defines catalog music as songs more than 18 months old. The company set out its findings on catalog listening in its Retro Revival report and its 2026 midyear report.

Luminate is the data organisation behind the Billboard charts. It has powered the charts for more than 30 years and says it sources core data from more than 500 authorised partners across digital services, retail and airplay. Luminate

For listeners, this means choice on a scale that is hard to picture. For working musicians and the teams around them, it means each new release arrives alongside tens of thousands of others on the same day.
