Tinashe says Harry Styles understood her work, so she said yes to Phoenix
Tinashe will open Harry Styles' first two North American stadium shows in Phoenix on April 2 and 3. She explained why she accepted the slot at a Spotify x Coach event in New York City on Sept. 16.
She told Billboard she had reached the point where she would not open for anyone unless they really understand what she is about. Styles met that test. She praised him as very open to artistry and focused on making sure fans have a good time.
That is a practical decision as much as a creative one. A support act plays the early set, warms up a large crowd and works with staging and sound organised around someone else's headline show. Tinashe has done that work before. She has previously opened for Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Beyoncé and Maroon 5.
Even with that history, the Phoenix dates are new territory. She said she has never performed her own songs in a stadium. Two nights at State Farm Stadium will change that.
The Phoenix shows kick off the North American leg of Styles' expanded Together, Together stadium tour. The 2027 run will also visit Pasadena, Dallas, Toronto, Atlanta and Chicago. Each city will have a different special guest supporting.
Tinashe is part of a wide roster of openers for the tour. Kylie Minogue, Lainey Wilson and Q Marsden are among those named, alongside CA7RIEL & Paco Amoroso and The Womack Sisters, according to People. Styles extended the Together, Together tour into 2027 with global stadium shows. The run also includes a New York City residency.
The timing puts the stadium dates just after Tinashe's next release. Her fifth studio album, Popstar, is due Sept. 25 and follows 2024's Quantum Baby. Her recent "No Broke Boys" collaboration with Disco Lines reached No. 39 on the Billboard Hot 100, the United States singles chart, becoming her second US top 40 hit.
What makes this stand out is how plainly she put it. She did not talk about scale or exposure. She talked about fit, and about playing for a crowd that is there to enjoy the night.
