Re/Pair brings 19 Black-Jewish conversations to Toronto
Nineteen conversations sit at the centre of Re/Pair, a documentary about Black and Jewish history and relations in America having its world premiere at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival.
Directed by Lacey Schwartz Delgado, the 101-minute film — 1 hour 41 minutes — screens in TIFF Docs, the festival's documentary section, The Hollywood Reporter reported on 17 September 2026.
The structure is simple and strict. The film is built around 19 paired dialogues, each bringing together a Black participant and a Jewish participant. Those taking part include artists, pundits, spiritual leaders and others, according to the same report.
The on-screen lineup mixes familiar screen and stage names with writers, musicians and commentators. Interview subjects include actors David Schwimmer and Harry Lennix, alongside comedian W. Kamau Bell, comedian Robert Klein, writer Susan Orlean, musician Matisyahu and commentator Van Jones.
Jones has a second role on the project. He is also credited as an executive producer, a senior backing position that usually involves financing or shepherding a film to completion.
The title carries two ideas at once. It refers to the paired-dialogue format, with two people in conversation in each segment, and to Tikkun olam, a Hebrew phrase meaning the repairing of the world.
Schwartz Delgado previously directed Little White Lie, according to TIFF, which maintains an official film page for Re/Pair. TIFF included the film by Schwartz Delgado in its official TIFF Docs 2026 lineup announcement.
The director confirmed the festival launch herself in August. She announced in a post on 18 August 2026 that Re/Pair would have its world premiere at Toronto.
