Blue Ant Media takes global rights to Rory Kennedy's Alec Baldwin documentary
Blue Ant Media has acquired the global licensing rights to The Trial of Alec Baldwin, the feature documentary directed by Rory Kennedy.
The deal covers sales outside the United States, meaning Blue Ant will license the film to international broadcasters and streamers territory by territory. Deadline reported the acquisition as an exclusive on 17 September 2026.
The United States comes first. Abramorama bought the US domestic rights, meaning the American release, about two weeks earlier. It has set a theatre debut in October, according to Deadline.
Blue Ant will now take the film to Mipcom, the international television market in Cannes where distributors sell programmes to buyers from around the world. There it will pitch the documentary to international broadcasters and streamers.
The film follows Alec Baldwin through the personal and legal fallout from the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the Western Rust in 2021. On 21 October 2021, Hutchins was killed by a prop gun held by Baldwin, according to Abramorama. No further detail about the incident is stated in the sales materials.
Kennedy approached Baldwin about taking part in March 2023 and began filming later that spring, Deadline reported. She was given exclusive access to Baldwin over several years. The documentary includes previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage and reconstructs the events around Hutchins’ death.
The deal for Blue Ant was struck by Valentina Daley, vice president of acquisitions at Blue Ant Rights and Streaming, the company’s sales and licensing arm.
For viewers outside the US, this means the path to a local release starts now. The October American cinema run will come first, with international dates to depend on the broadcasters and platforms Blue Ant signs in the months ahead.
