Princess of Wales Chooses Burberry for First Official Visit to Isle of Bute

Catherine, Princess of Wales, turned to Burberry for her first official visit to the Isle of Bute.

She joined her husband, William, Prince of Wales, for a day of engagements on the Scottish island, according to reporting published Sept. 17 by Town & Country. It was the couple's first official trip to Bute.

The princess paired the coat with a turtleneck sweater, called a jumper in Britain, and brown skinny jeans. The coat's lining showed Burberry's distinctive check. The check gave it away.

Burberry is a British fashion house best known for its trench coats and checked pattern. It holds a royal warrant from King Charles, an official mark that a company supplies goods to the royal household.

In Scotland, the couple use different titles. They are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, the titles traditionally carried by the heir to the British throne and his wife when they are north of the border.

The Bute trip began in Rothesay, the island's main town, with a stop at Bute Shinty Club. Shinty is a fast Scottish stick-and-ball sport similar to field hockey. The club visit put the focus on local sport and young players.

The schedule also included the Anchor Tavern Pub. The pub is owned by the community, meaning local residents bought and run it. That model is common in rural Scotland, where residents step in to keep gathering places open.

The princess has worn Burberry in Scotland before. In 2023, she chose a green and black checked Burberry quilted jacket for engagements in Moray and Inverness, in the Scottish Highlands.

What makes this stand out is the repeat formula. A warm coat. Practical denim. A British label with a royal link. For a first visit, it was low-key dressing built for shaking hands and stepping in and out of doors.
