Netflix has released Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, the fourth instalment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's Monster series. The eight-episode season is now streaming on Netflix, according to the platform Netflix Tudum.

The series is an anthology, meaning each season tells a separate true-crime story with a new cast and subject. This time the focus is Lizzie Borden. It is the anthology's first season centred on a female killer Variety.

Ella Beatty stars as Lizzie. Beatty is the daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening Deadline. She leads an ensemble that includes Rebecca Hall as Abby Borden, Lizzie's stepmother, and Charlie Hunnam as Andrew Borden, Lizzie's father.

The household is rounded out by Vicky Krieps as housemaid Bridget Sullivan and Billie Lourd as Lizzie's sister Emma. Joey Pollari also joined the cast for the season Variety.

The story is set in Fall River, Massachusetts in the late 19th century. Netflix's official synopsis describes Lizzie as trapped in a cruel Victorian-era household, before she kills her parents in a gory axe murder that shocks the nation Netflix.

That reflects the real case behind the drama. Lizzie Borden was accused of the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother in Massachusetts Variety. She was eventually acquitted of the charges Variety.

What makes this stand out for returning viewers is the casting crossover. Hunnam played Ed Gein in the previous season. The new season's trailer also features Sarah Paulson as Aileen Wuornos. The Gein season had highlighted copycat killers Ted Bundy and Richard Speck, linking each killer to the ones who followed.

Netflix released a trailer for the Borden season on Aug. 20 Netflix Tudum. It has followed that with a cast guide to the new ensemble, written for Tudum by John DiLillo Netflix Tudum.
