Zara Larsson condemns White House use of 'Midnight Sun' in ICE video
Zara Larsson has branded the White House "losers" after her song "Midnight Sun" was used as the soundtrack to a TikTok video showing arrests and deportations by ICE, the US immigration enforcement agency The Mirror. The Swedish singer answered with her own TikTok video condemning the clip. She called the footage dehumanising.
The White House video showed ICE agents arresting and deporting individuals, set to "Midnight Sun", according to Billboard. It was captioned "Never ending deportations." The audio choice put a pop release at the centre of an immigration enforcement message.
Larsson reposted the White House footage in her response so viewers could see what she was addressing. "This video is so dehumanizing. These people in the video are real people," she said. She added that "Midnight Sun" is about feeling connected to nature, the universe and other people.
It was not the first clash. The White House had previously posted a video of President Donald Trump dancing to Larsson's "Lush Life", accompanied by messages supporting ICE and law enforcement. After that video, Larsson wrote in an Instagram Story: "I f–king hate ICE."
"Midnight Sun" peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, the US singles chart. That figure was reported by Billboard, which tracks the chart.
What makes this stand out is the repeat. She did not hold back either time. For listeners following the dispute, her objection has stayed consistent: she does not want her music paired with deportation footage.
