Free Dungeon Crawler Carl Comic Coming to New York Comic Con From CGC
Comic grader CGC is giving New York Comic Con attendees a free Dungeon Crawler Carl comic they cannot get anywhere else.
The collectibles authentication organisation is teaming with author Matt Dinniman to release a limited-edition Dungeon Crawler Carl #0 variant at the convention, which runs Oct. 8-11, according to Variety. A variant cover, meaning the same issue with different front art, will be handed out at CGC’s booths during the show.
The cover features new commissioned artwork by Doug Mahnke. The project began after artist representative Jon Jespersen approached CGC about working with Mahnke on a variant for the convention.
It is free with a grading submission. Fans who submit eligible collectibles to CGC for grading, meaning a professional check, grade and sealed casing to confirm condition, at NYCC can receive the book free. The offer is limited to one per person while supplies last.
Find CGC in two places. The company will be at Booth #2805 and at the CGC Signature Series and JSA Booth #HB906. CGC and JSA are the official grading and authentication services for NYCC this year.
So what is Dungeon Crawler Carl? It is a comic adapted from Dinniman’s bestselling litRPG novel series, meaning stories set inside role-playing game rules and systems. It is published as a webcomic and in print through Vault Comics.
Collectors can also dress up their graded copies. CGC is introducing a Dungeon Crawler Carl custom label, meaning a themed design on the sealed casing that holds a graded book, available beginning Sept. 22 for Dungeon Crawler Carl comic submissions.
There is more happening at the booths. CGC’s stands will host creator appearances including signings tied to two new Absolute Batman #24 variants featuring original artwork. Dinniman himself lists a New York Comic Con appearance for Oct. 8-11 in New York City on his events page.
For fans, this means planning ahead if you want the freebie. You will need an eligible item to submit for grading at the show, not just a walk-up request.
Do not confuse the CGC giveaway with other convention books. Vault Comics listings also show separate NYCC-exclusive editions of Dungeon Crawler Carl #0, including one with cover art by Nathan Gooden listed on Vault Comics and a DCC x D’ORC crossover variant by Brett Bean tied to his Image series D’ORC. The CGC Mahnke book is its own free release, available only through the grading offer.
