Hulu orders Ibiza-set limited series Heatwave from Anna Symon

Hulu has ordered Heatwave, an Ibiza-set limited series — meaning a drama designed to run for one closed-ended season — from creator Anna Symon.
Deadline reported the commission as an exclusive on 18 September 2026. The order moves the project to Hulu after an earlier spell in development elsewhere.
Symon has created, written and will executive produce the series. She previously created Joan, the ITV and CW series starring Sophie Turner as jewel thief Joan Hannington.
Shannon Murphy is on board to direct and to executive produce. The wider producing team includes Lucy Bedford through B Major Productions, Kathleen McCaffrey through little gems, and Banijay UK.
The story centres on two couples, Daisy and Andy and Mac and Clare. The four reunite after years of lost contact, and that reunion threatens to destroy everything they have built.
The shape of the show has changed since it was first revealed. Heatwave was previously in development at HBO Max with Symon and Murphy attached, as Deadline reported in October 2022. That earlier version was described as following a forty-something woman who begins a reckless affair during a family holiday in Ibiza.
Banijay was involved in that HBO Max iteration and remains attached through Banijay UK on the Hulu version. The continuity links the two attempts to bring the Ibiza story to screen.
Symon’s earlier writing credit includes Mrs. Wilson, the BBC and PBS drama starring Ruth Wilson. Murphy’s directing credits include episodes of Killing Eve.
What makes this stand out is the reunion at its centre. Four old friends. One island. A break that could not be repaired.
