Tyrell Malacia joins FC Cincinnati after Manchester United exit

FC Cincinnati have signed Tyrell Malacia on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old Netherlands international was available after leaving Manchester United at the end of last season. His contract in Cincinnati runs until next June, with an option to extend for the 2027-28 season, according to BBC Sport.

Malacia is a left-back, a defender who operates down the left side of the pitch. He made 50 appearances for United after joining the Premier League club from Feyenoord in 2022.

United had originally signed him from the Dutch club on a deal running to June 2026, as reported at the time by Reuters. He saw out that contract and then left Old Trafford as a free agent, which means no transfer fee was due for his next move.

Cincinnati moved quickly. Malacia was already training with the club in September 2026 before the deal was confirmed, according to The Athletic.

The American club point to deep experience at the top of the European game. They credit Malacia with more than 250 club appearances in Europe, per FC Cincinnati.
