Alan Ritchson in talks to join Helldivers film after Momoa exit
Alan Ritchson is in talks to star in Sony's Helldivers movie. No deal has closed yet.
The report, published on 18 September 2026, says Ritchson would play one of the helldivers, the front-line soldiers at the centre of the story. More roles are expected to be announced separately. Sony Pictures gave no comment on the potential casting, according to Deadline.
The talks follow the departure of Jason Momoa from the project. Momoa had been linked to the film but has now dropped out, as noted by GameSpot. No reason was given for the change.
Justin Lin remains attached as director. He is also producing through his company, Perfect Storm Entertainment.
The wider producing team includes Asad Qizilbash for PlayStation Productions, Sony's label for adapting its game properties for film and television, alongside Hutch Parker. Plot details are under wraps. The production remains in development while casting is organised.
Sony has the film scheduled for theatrical release on 10 November 2027. That date holds for now.
For fans, this means the face of the squad may be changing, but the plan has not. A director is in place. A release date is set. The next concrete step is a signed lead and the rest of the unit around him.
