Shaun the Sheep returns with monster twist as third film opens
Shaun the Sheep is back in cinemas, and this time there is a monster on the loose.
Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom opened in the United Kingdom and the United States on 18 September 2026. It is the third feature-length film for the flock, Variety reported. The release was dated for 18 September in both markets, according to Aardman.
The film is directed by Steve Cox and Matthew Walker. The pair told Variety the story began in the world of Universal monsters and Hammer horror. That means the old Hollywood creature films, and the British studio famous for its blood-red Dracula and Frankenstein pictures.
The plot starts small. Shaun tries to fix a problem in the pumpkin patch. His answer is a growth formula. It backfires and turns the Farmer into a hairy beast.
Then Mossingham gets strange. The Farmer goes missing. A wild beast is seen roaming the woods around the village. That setup gives Shaun and the flock a rescue job with fangs.
Three new voices join the flock for this outing. Nina Sosanya, Paul Whitehouse and Roman Kemp were added to the cast, Aardman announced in August. Their roles sit alongside the regular farmyard gang.
The project has been in public view for almost a year. Aardman, Sky and Studiocanal shared a first look at the film in October 2025. Trailers followed in March and June 2026 ahead of the September opening.
What makes this stand out is the genre switch. Shaun usually deals with a broken fence or a runaway tractor. Here the directors have borrowed the shapes of classic horror, large shadows, mist and a transformation, and fitted them around a wordless farm comedy.
