Chris Rock brings Misty Green to Toronto with Rosalind Eleazar leading cast

Chris Rock has returned to directing with Misty Green, a drama about a fallen star with one week to save herself.

Rock wrote and directed the film, which is being released by A24, the distributor that puts films into cinemas, Deadline reported. He discussed it alongside star Rosalind Eleazar in a Deadline Studio interview recorded at the Toronto International Film Festival.

The story centres on a once-famous actress, now struggling and self-destructive, who is evicted from her luxury apartment and has seven days to turn her life around, Deadline reported. It is a tight clock. The whole film hangs on what she does with that week.

Eleazar plays Misty. Rock said he cast her because she was the best actress who came in and understood the material, Deadline reported.

Eleazar said she had doubts about taking the role as a British actress. She was drawn to the challenge of playing a complicated, contradictory woman with self-destructive behaviour, Deadline reported.

The wider cast includes Anna Kendrick, Deadline reported. Daniel Kaluuya is also in the film, according to A24. Rock appears in front of the camera as well as directing and writing, Deadline reported.

Misty Green screened in the Gala Presentations programme, the festival's showcase section for high-profile titles, Deadline reported. Its first screening took place on Saturday 12 September at Roy Thompson Hall, Deadline reported. A further festival screening on 18 September was presented with open captions, displayed dialogue and sound descriptions on screen, according to TIFF.

For fans, this means a short wait for release details. A24 lists Misty Green as Coming Soon, according to A24. The company gives the release date as 2026 (TBD), to be decided, according to A24.

The Toronto interview was recorded at the Deadline Studio at the Bisha Hotel, presented by Volvo, Columbia, Patrón and Schwarzkopf, Deadline reported.
