Suns make it three straight, Tigers survive Giants scare

Gold Coast beat Essendon by 41 points at Windy Hill to claim a third straight win in the AFLW.

The Suns won 7.9 (51) to 1.4 (10) in Round 6 on Sunday 20 September. In footy scoring, that reads seven goals and nine behinds to one goal and four behinds, for a 41-point margin. ABC

The result lifted Gold Coast to a 4-2 record. The club moved into fifth spot on the ladder, according to Yahoo. Essendon slipped to 0-6 after six rounds.

Essendon managed just the single goal for the afternoon at its home ground. The 1:05pm AEST match at Windy Hill was played without Bombers forward Daria Bannister, who missed with a knee complaint.

Midfielder Madison Prespakis still found plenty of the ball for the Bombers. She finished with a game-high 38 disposals, which count every kick and handball.

In Canberra, Richmond survived a scare to beat Greater Western Sydney by seven points. The Tigers won 9.14 (68) to 10.1 (61) at Manuka Oval, also known as Corroboree Group Oval Manuka. ABC

Richmond kicked nine goals but added 14 behinds. GWS were far more accurate with 10 goals from 11 scoring shots. Seven points separated them at the final siren.

Gabby Seymour led the way for Richmond with a career-best three goals. The win lifted the Tigers to 4-2. GWS fell to 1-5 after naming an unchanged team for the Round 6 trip.

The AFL billed it as “Wayward Tigers hold on against dead-eye Giants in a thriller” in its match report on September 20.

What makes this stand out is efficiency against volume. Gold Coast turned pressure into scoreboard separation. Richmond did the opposite and still banked the four points. For fans, this means the middle of the ladder stays tight, with two 4-2 sides chasing consistency.
