Kojima Productions has told players to treat a report on why its spy game Physint changed publishers with a dose of scepticism.

The studio posted its response on its official X account. It said none of the claims in the article came from any official or on-the-record source. That response was detailed by Video Games Chronicle in a story published on 20 September 2026.

On the record is a small phrase with weight. It means a named spokesperson speaking with authority, rather than an unnamed account. Kojima Productions said that level of sourcing was absent here, and asked readers to weigh the report accordingly.

Physint had been set to be published by PlayStation Studios before Kojima Productions moved its production to Xbox. A publisher is the company that funds, markets and distributes a game. A change at that level can decide which consoles and stores a game reaches first, which is why players pay attention. PlayStation and Xbox run rival console platforms and PC storefronts, so the name on the box is never just a logo.

Studio head Hideo Kojima has offered his own brief timeline for the split. He said Sony told him three months ago that it was cancelling Physint. He discussed what happened with Sony in an exclusive interview with IGN published after PlayStation ended its involvement with the project.

Short statement. Big switch.

The studio also used its message to describe where production stands now. It said development of Physint continues to move forward with Xbox. It said its relationship with PlayStation remains strong.

It added that it is in a healthy, profitable state. That last point came from the studio itself, describing its own business. The message gave no figures beyond that description.

There is another game in the queue. Kojima Productions' OD will be released before Physint, according to IGN in a report published on 10 September 2026. No new release date for either title was included in the verified material.

For fans, this leaves two ideas side by side. Physint is now an Xbox production moving ahead. The studio says there is no wider rupture, with PlayStation ties intact and the business stable. The takeaway the studio wants is plain: check the source line before passing the story on.
