Secuoya Studios names Carla Gómez to lead Latin America development
Secuoya Studios has appointed veteran producer Carla Gómez as head of development and executive producer for Latin America, the company confirmed on 21 September, as reported by Variety.
Gómez will lead the development of original projects in the region, taking them from initial idea through to production. The role puts her in charge of finding new stories and shaping them into series and films ready to shoot.
She arrives with more than two decades in television and streaming. She also brings with her a library of intellectual property, meaning stories and formats she owns the rights to, and projects developed through her boutique company Cielito Studio, according to Variety.
Her CV spans some of the biggest buyers and makers in Spanish-language television. She has worked with content teams at ViX, HBO and Viacom, produced for NBCUniversal, and most recently worked as a development consultant for Netflix in Colombia.
Her executive credits include the ViX productions Isla Brava, El Gallo de Oro, La Mujer del Diablo and María Félix: La Doña. She also steered Sierra Madre for HBO Latin America and the Nickelodeon hit Grachi and its United States adaptation, Every Witch Way.
The appointment follows a structural change in April, when Secuoya gave its Latin American arm greater autonomy over development, production and greenlight decisions, the final go-ahead to make a project. The focus is on Mexico, Colombia and the U.S. Hispanic market, with the regional studio operating as a self-contained unit, as stated by Secuoya Studios.
In the region, Gómez will report into a team led by managing director Daniel Hernández Bocanegra, with Pierluigi Gazzolo acting as strategic adviser through Farniente Media.
She joins a slate with recent momentum. Secuoya produced the Netflix film La Celda de los Milagros, which topped the streamer’s global chart for non-English-language films for the week of 16-22 February and logged 21 million worldwide views in the first half of 2026, according to Netflix. Upcoming Latin American projects include Belleza, made with BH5 for Miércoles Entertainment, and La Corona, a joint effort with Black Sheep Productions, Startling, Infinity Hill and Runaway Films.
What makes this stand out is the combination. Secuoya gets an executive who knows the commissioners in Mexico City, Bogotá and Los Angeles, plus a ready drawer of ideas to develop now the regional team can say yes on its own.
