Roel Reiné to Direct Sci-Fi Thriller Lunar Colony
Roel Reiné will direct Lunar Colony, a sci-fi thriller billed as a space-age Romeo and Juliet.
The news was reported by Deadline on September 21, 2026. Reiné, a Dutch director whose recent television work included the 2022-24 series Halo, has signed for the original feature.
The story is set in 2060. Humanity established a permanent civilisation on the Moon called Terra 2.0 nearly three decades earlier. It centres on Tiara and Josh, two young people raised on opposite sides of the Earth-Moon divide who fall in love.
The project is described as a classic romance in the vein of Romeo and Juliet. Writer Cerise Fukuji penned the script. The idea took inspiration from NASA's Artemis programme to return astronauts to the Moon and establish a permanent base there.
Artemis is the American space agency's ongoing Moon programme. It aims to land crews on the lunar surface again and learn how people can live and work there. That real-world plan forms the starting point for the film's fictional colony.
The film is produced by Centerboro Productions, Sintered Steel Productions and Convoke Media together. The producer line-up is Patricia A. Beninati, Todd Slater, Fukuji, Marilyn G. Haft, Ram Paul Silbey and Nina Demarchi, with Stephen Marinaccio as line producer, the manager who runs the day-to-day budget and shoot.
Principal casting was underway at the time of the report, with production targeted for 2027. No cast members or release date were named. Convoke Media began speaking to buyers at TIFF, the Toronto International Film Festival, in September 2026.
