Podium Entertainment sold for more than US$400 million

Podium Entertainment, a publisher known for audiobooks from independent authors, has been sold for more than US$400 million.
The seller was Presidio Investors. The buyers are Flexpoint Ford and Shamrock Capital, private-equity firms, meaning companies that use pooled investor money to buy businesses. GoldState Music joined as a minority investor, meaning a backer with a small, non-controlling share Publishers Lunch. The deal was reported on 21 September 2026.
The Wall Street Journal reported the sale under the headline "Private-Equity Firms Buy Indie-Author Publisher Podium for More Than $400 Million" The Wall Street Journal. An indie-author publisher works with writers who release books outside the traditional publishing houses.
Podium started in 2013. It has built a catalogue of more than 15,000 audio titles, meaning recorded books it controls and sells. The price is high. Audio is now a large part of how many readers listen.
Flexpoint Ford is one of the two lead buyers. The firm describes two complementary strategies across Private Equity and Asset Opportunity. It reports a 21-year history of investing, more than 100 investments since inception and US$9.0 billion in assets under management, meaning the total investor money it oversees Flexpoint Ford.
Podium is also working with the non-profit organisation Ownership Works to set up a programme giving all employees an ownership stake. That means staff would hold a share in the company that employs them, alongside the new owners.
What makes this stand out is the route to the shelf. A manuscript from an independent writer can become a recorded book, then part of a catalogue of thousands, then part of a company sale. For listeners, this means no immediate change to the books on offer. The owners have changed. The catalogue remains.
