Stafford Makes History as Rams Rout Injury-Hit Giants 28-6
The Los Angeles Rams rolled past the New York Giants 28-6 on Monday night at SoFi Stadium, turning a battle of backups and comebacks into a one-sided showcase. Matthew Stafford threw four touchdown passes and the defense shut down New York from the opening series, according to The Guardian.
Stafford finished with 327 yards passing. The rout was on early. His night also carried history, as his 426th career touchdown pass moved him past Philip Rivers into sixth place on the NFL’s all-time list.
That milestone throw came in the third quarter. Stafford lofted an 11-yard fade — a high throw to the corner of the end zone where only his receiver could get it — to Davante Adams for the score.
Adams was nearly uncoverable all night. He caught eight passes for 195 yards and scored twice. The first came on the Rams’ second possession, a 31-yard strike that opened the lead and set the tone.
Los Angeles kept stacking big plays. After Adams broke loose for a 64-yard catch, running back Kyren Williams finished the drive with a 10-yard touchdown grab. The Rams outgained the Giants 481 yards to 182.
The night also marked the return of Aaron Donald. The star defensive tackle, playing his first NFL game in 32 months, recorded three tackles in the win.
New York lost its starting quarterback almost immediately. Jaxson Dart injured his left knee with 11:20 left in the first quarter on the Giants’ first offensive series, per Giants.com. The hit came from Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart on New York’s seventh offensive play, and Dart was listed as questionable to return.
He did not come back. Veteran Jameis Winston replaced him and completed 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards with one interception, a pass caught by the defense.
What makes this stand out is how complete the Rams looked on both sides. Stafford spread the ball with timing and touch, Adams won deep and underneath, and a defense sparked by Donald’s return never gave the Giants a chance to answer.
