White House launches Trump TV with Friends, Simpsons and Breaking Bad clips
The White House has launched its own video feed, Trump TV, and introduced it with clips from Friends, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Home Alone, Modern Family, Breaking Bad and The Dark Knight.
The promo pulls together seven familiar film and television titles in a single launch video. The administration bills the service as "The Essentials Station." Trump TV provides a live feed of official events.
The White House published two videos on 21 September 2026 to start the service. They were titled 'Trump TV is Here' and 'TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station' White House. The branding presents the feed as a direct line to the presidency, with pictures supplied by the White House itself.
The clips come from catalogues controlled by other media groups. The material belongs to Warner Bros., ABC, Fox, Sony Pictures Television, Disney and NBCUniversal, according to Deadline. That puts work from six major Hollywood rights holders inside one White House promo. No licensing terms were detailed in the verified reports.
The launch followed a fight over access at the White House. President Donald Trump banned Politico, CNN and MS Now from the White House. On 18 September, he said he might ban other news organisations from the White House, as reported by Reuters.
The dispute then hit television coverage on the road. CNN held the TV pool assignment for Monday 21 September, a rota in which one crew films an event and shares the pictures with all the networks. CNN was scheduled to serve as the primary network for coverage that day.
Other television networks declined to replace CNN, in protest at its exclusion. There was no TV pool on the day Mr Trump travelled to New York. That left a gap in the normal system for covering presidential movements, where a small shared camera team guarantees every broadcaster gets the same pictures.
The New York Times described Trump TV as "essentially a form of state television."
What makes this stand out for viewers is the swap. Pool pictures are normally gathered by news organisations and shared around. Trump TV offers pictures that come direct from the White House, published under its own label and on its own schedule.
