Henry Pollock ends saga with new Northampton Saints deal

Henry Pollock has ended weeks of speculation by signing a multi-year contract extension to stay at Northampton Saints.

The club confirmed the new agreement keeps the 21-year-old at Franklin’s Gardens beyond summer 2027, when his previous deal had been due to expire. That previous contract was only signed in December 2024, but his rise since has been so fast that his future became one of the talking points of the English season, according to BBC Sport.

Pollock is a back-row forward, a flanker whose job is tackling, carrying and fighting for the ball on the floor after tackles. He has already won 13 England caps and five British and Irish Lions caps, according to The Guardian. Last autumn he was nominated for the World Rugby Breakthrough Player of the Year award, per Northampton Saints.

His climb has been startlingly quick. He made his league debut for Northampton in November 2023, then made his England Test debut off the bench against Wales in March 2025 and scored two tries. Two months later he was a bolter pick for the British and Irish Lions squad, the touring team drawn from England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

For a while it was unclear where he would play next. In mid-September he said he was “open to every opportunity” and had yet to sign a new deal with Saints. He had also become the first rugby player to be represented by Barry and Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Talent Agency, a group better known for promoting boxing, darts and snooker. His new Northampton contract was widely reported to be worth in excess of £400,000 per year.

Pollock said: “I’m massively happy to re-sign with Saints, my boyhood club.” He added that winning the Champions Cup, Europe’s top club competition, is another huge ambition after Northampton came close a couple of years ago. Director of rugby Phil Dowson said: “We’re delighted that Henry has committed his future to Saints.”

What makes this stand out is the context around it. Northampton are the reigning Prem champions, having won the Premiership last season. English clubs work under a £6.4m squad salary cap, the limit on what they can spend on players, so keeping a young England and Lions starter is a big call.

For fans, this means certainty. The saga is over. Saints keep their most explosive forward, England keep him in the home game, and Pollock gets to chase another league title and that European crown in familiar colours.
