Resident Evil Reboot Takes No. 1 in U.K. and Ireland

Sony's Resident Evil reboot has opened at No. 1 in the U.K. and Ireland with £4.2 million ($5.6 million) for the weekend reported on 22 September, according to Variety.
The 2026 reboot was directed by Zach Cregger, according to The Hollywood Reporter. It opened to $60.1 million in domestic, the United States and Canada. Worldwide, it opened to $108 million, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
In the U.K. and Ireland, the reboot played in 608 sites. It averaged £6,926 per site, according to Screen Daily. That figure is total takings divided by cinema count. It points to broad booking across the market.
Warner Bros.' Practical Magic 2 placed second in the U.K. and Ireland in its second weekend with $2.03 million, taking its total to $7.5 million. Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom opened third in the same market with $2.2 million. Pressure was fourth in its second week with $1.4 million, reaching $5.8 million. The weekend was organised with new family fare sitting beside established titles.
Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey was fifth in the U.K. and Ireland in its 10th week with $794,765, reaching $116.1 million. Spider-Man: Brand New Day was sixth in its eighth week with $772,975, reaching $133.9 million. That total puts Spider-Man third on the all-time U.K. and Ireland chart, behind Skyfall. That is staying power.
Disney documentary Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger was seventh in the U.K. and Ireland in its second week with $659,899, reaching $5.1 million. Paramount's Bad Apples opened eighth in the market with $658,468. The Transformers: 40th Anniversary Event took ninth with $585,683. Sony's Insidious: Out of the Further was 10th in its fifth week with $263,374, reaching $10.5 million in the U.K. and Ireland.
What makes this stand out is the spread across the list. Horror, animation, fantasy, documentary and anniversary programming all placed together. For cinemagoers, it meant very different nights out were on offer inside the same theatre complex.
