First Look: Dustin Milligan and Diona Doherty Lead Cross-Atlantic Romance Committed
CBC and BBC Northern Ireland have shared first-look photos from Committed, their romantic comedy about a whirlwind affair that stretches from Toronto to Northern Ireland.
The images, released on 22 September, show stars Dustin Milligan and Diona Doherty together for the first time as the show's central couple, according to Deadline. The series is slated to launch on CBC and CBC Gem in winter 2027, with BBC Northern Ireland airing it around the same time.
Milligan plays Peter Hooley, a Canadian who flies across the Atlantic to declare his love. Doherty plays Julie Doherty, a recently divorced accountant from Northern Ireland. The two meet for one weekend in Toronto. Then Peter decides not to let it end there.
The six-part? No. The series was ordered as half-hour episodes, meaning each instalment runs 30 minutes. It was co-created by Keith Martin, Gerry Dee and Tim Loane, with Loane acting as showrunner, the writer in charge of day-to-day creative decisions.
It is a formal international co-production. Cameron Pictures in Northern Ireland and Fabel Productions in Canada are making the series together under the UK-Canada Co-Production Treaty, an agreement that lets producers from both countries share the work and qualify as local in each market.
The supporting cast fills out Julie's family and friends. Ian McElhinney plays her gruff father William John. Seamus O'Hara plays her brother John William. Muki Zubis plays her best friend Chimamanda, with Chris McCurry as Chimamanda's husband Mervyn.
Dan Gordon plays Ivan Johnston and Patrick Buchanan plays Rev. Campbell Smiley. Athena Karkanis and Georgie Murphy also appear in the ensemble.
Milligan is known to many viewers from the festive film Hot Frosty, while Doherty previously appeared in the police drama Blue Lights, according to CBC.
Cameras are rolling on both sides of the Atlantic. The production is shooting in County Down in Northern Ireland, with additional scenes in Hamilton, Ontario. Filming was already underway in County Down when the BBC and CBC announced the commission in April, according to the BBC Media Centre.
For viewers, this means a short wait. A winter 2027 debut puts the show about a year out from these first photos, with two broadcasters sharing the same story for audiences in Canada and Northern Ireland.
