Geico is developing a holiday special built around its advertising characters, set in a festive world in the style of Frosty or Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.

The plan was detailed by Variety on 22 September. It sits at the centre of a wider entertainment push led by chief marketing officer Arianna Orpello, who joined the insurer in January.

Orpello was scheduled to start on 5 January 2026, according to Geico. She arrived from Goldman Sachs, where she was global chief brand officer. Before that she held senior leadership roles at TD Bank, Capital One and ING Direct, as reported by Coverager. At Geico she oversees marketing operations and reports directly to chairman, president and chief executive Todd Combs.

The clearest example so far is the Gecko. The animated lizard had previously appeared only in TV commercials. In June, it appeared on basketball player Azzi Fudd’s podcast, Fudd Around and Find Out, using AI to interact with the host in conversation.

That show is Fudd’s iHeart Women’s Sports podcast, Geico said in a June statement. The episode was live and unscripted. It was the first time Geico had used the Gecko as a real-time, AI-powered podcast participant, according to Marketing Dive. The system allowed the character to answer directly instead of relying on pre-recorded lines.

The sports connection runs wider. In April, Geico and the Dallas Wings announced a multi-year partnership, according to Geico. The deal puts the insurer alongside a Women’s National Basketball Association franchise as it increases its work with athletes and sports audio.

Podcasts are the largest part of the slate. Geico is working with iHeartMedia to launch a TikTok Podcast Network to sponsor creator voices and shows. It will back Raiders of The Lost Podcast, a programme about popular films, and an original podcast effort from Diana Flores, quarterback of Mexico’s flag-football team. In July, the company also unveiled an alliance with Oprah Winfrey’s weekly podcast.

On screen, Geico has partnered with Apartment Therapy on a new series about turning rentals into homes. It is made for distribution across Meta, TikTok and YouTube, where short episodes can live outside traditional TV schedules. The company is also planning a marketing alliance with Dairy Queen. Both organisations sit in the Berkshire Hathaway portfolio.

For viewers, this means familiar ad characters will start appearing outside ad breaks. The holiday special is still in development. No outlet, air date or episode count has been announced.
