Taylor Swift will release a new single, “Patient Zero”, on September 25. She announced the date on Sept. 22, at the end of a countdown posted to her website two hours earlier, Billboard reported.

The countdown gave no title in advance. The title appeared only when the clock ran out. The gap between announcement and arrival is three days.

Three recorded versions are listed for pre-order on her website: the original cut, plus separate acoustic and piano versions. An acoustic version usually strips the production back to guitar or light backing, while a piano version centres the song on keyboards. Her site labels all three as “Patient Zero” Collector’s Edition CDs, with alternative covers for the acoustic and piano editions, according to Taylor Swift’s official website. In plain terms, they are physical discs with different artwork for each version.

The ordering window is tight. The CDs are available to pre-order for 24 hours until 2 p.m. ET on September 23, while supplies last. That deadline falls two days before the single itself is due out. Once the window closes, the listings come down. A pre-order means fans pay now and receive the disc after release.

The reveal followed a visual clue. Swift replaced the letter O with a zero in her Instagram bio, the short profile line at the top of her page, and in lyrics from The Life of a Showgirl shown on Apple Music. Fans spotted the switch before any music was confirmed. The zero pointed directly to the new title.

“Patient Zero” will be her first release since The Life of a Showgirl, which arrived last October. On the current calendar, that is October 2025. The album then spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the American chart that ranks the most-consumed albums each week from sales and streaming. Twelve weeks at the top is roughly three months in first place.

The album also produced two No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100, the US chart that ranks the most-consumed songs from sales, radio play and streaming. “The Fate of Ophelia” reached the top spot. So did “Opalite”. Both results were counted by Billboard.

For fans, this means a quick sequence to follow. Announcement on Sept. 22. CDs off sale on Sept. 23. New song on Sept. 25. The three versions give listeners a choice from the start, rather than one recording followed later by extras. Watch Swift’s website and streaming accounts for the release itself.
