Billboard's Leila Cobo honoured at First Ladies Luncheon in New York

Leila Cobo, co-chief content officer of Billboard, has been honoured in New York for her work to preserve Latin culture through music. The Colombian journalist and writer was named among the Innovators and Changemakers at Fashion 4 Development's 14th Annual Official First Ladies Luncheon, WWD reported.
The lunch took place on Tuesday at the Pierre hotel in New York City. It coincided with the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Fashion 4 Development, the organisation behind the event, holds the luncheon each year during Assembly week to honour people seeking positive impact through sustainable fashion practices.
The group was founded by Evie Evangelou to support the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. It was set up in cooperation with the office of then U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in support of "Every Woman, Every Child." Evangelou, founder and president, co-hosted this year's edition. The inaugural First Ladies Luncheon launched in 2011.
Cobo and the other honourees received medals of honour designed for Fashion 4 Development by Toye, Kenning & Spencer of London. The honourees are presented through the group's Agents of Change programme and celebrated at the luncheon. Cobo was recognised in the Innovators and Changemakers group.
There was runway and stagecraft alongside the awards. Oscar de la Renta, the New York fashion house, staged a special presentation, with recognition for chief executive officer Alex Bolden. Dancers from the Joffrey Ballet School performed on behalf of Youth America Grand Prix, the youth dance organisation.
Cobo's honour follows another recent award. She received the 2026 Fulbright Colombia Excellence Award earlier this summer, Billboard reported.
What makes this stand out is the crossover. A music journalist known for covering Latin artists was celebrated in a fashion room full of diplomats, designers and campaigners. It was short speeches, medals and models. And a reminder that culture travels across industries.
