Britain guaranteed three medals after triple triumph in Sofia

Great Britain are guaranteed at least three medals at the European Boxing Championships in Bulgaria.
Chantelle Reid, Damar Thomas and Abdul Burton all won their quarter-finals at the Asics Arena Sports Hall in Sofia to reach the last four, BBC Sport reported. In amateur boxing there is no third-place box-off. Both losing semi-finalists take bronze, so all three Britons are already sure of a place on the podium.
Reid led the charge in the women's light-middleweight division. The 28-year-old, a Commonwealth Games silver medallist from Glasgow 2026, beat Ireland's Evelyn Igharo 5-0. All five judges gave her the fight. She will now face Serbia's Milena Matovic in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
Thomas followed in the men's super-heavyweight division, the heaviest men's class. The 21-year-old beat Georgia's Nikoloz Begadze 5-0, another unanimous decision on the judges' cards. He is scheduled to meet Azerbaijan's Mahammad Abdullayev for a place in the final.
Burton delivered the tightest win of the three. The 20-year-old edged Olympic bronze medallist Javier Ibanez 3-2 in a split decision, where three judges scored for him and two for his opponent. He will box Turkey's Semih Gumus in the semi-finals.
What makes this stand out is the spread. Britain have a medallist in the women's weights, at super-heavyweight and after beating an Olympic medallist. It points to depth across a 15-strong squad, not one star performance.
More medals could still follow. Lauren Mackie, Amy Broadhurst, Callum Makin and Oladimeji Shittu were all due in quarter-final action on Wednesday.
There were defeats elsewhere for Britain. Flyweight Ruby White lost 3-2 to Turkey's Hatice Akbas, an Olympic silver medallist. Emily Asquith lost 5-0 to Ireland's Lisa O'Rourke in a light-heavyweight bout. Commonwealth Games champion Isaac Okoh went out 3-0 to Germany's Kevin Lebowski in the men's heavyweight division.
