Sombr Rejects Claim Family Ties Helped His Career

Sombr has rejected speculation that family connections helped launch his music career.
The singer, whose birth name is Shane Boose, addressed the claim in an ELLE cover story published on Sept. 22. His answer was blunt. He said he finds it "incredibly insane" to think his parents' work helped him land a record deal or become a successful artist.
"To think that that could help me get signed or become a big artist because my dad devotes his life to fight AIDS is just incredibly insane," he said, as reported by Billboard.
The comment refers to his father, Andy Boose, a former musician who became an events producer working with HIV/AIDS organisations. His mother is Bennah Serfaty, who works in HIV/AIDS prevention.
For readers unfamiliar with the phrase, "nepo baby" is shorthand for a star said to have benefited from famous or well-connected parents. Sombr's point is that his parents work in public health, not the music business.
The interview, titled "Sombr on Fame, His World Tour, Taylor Swift, and New Music", covers more than his background. It was published by ELLE as a cover story.
What makes this stand out is the directness. He did not sidestep the question. He named his parents' jobs and dismissed the idea that they open doors at labels.
