Kit Harington says Jon Snow spinoff could still work

Kit Harington says a Jon Snow series could still work.
He told the Happy Sad Confused podcast and host Josh Horowitz that he sees "a world in which" a project centred on his Game of Thrones character could come together, in comments reported on 23 September 2026, according to Deadline. He said he feels more comfortable with Jon Snow and the Thrones world again. He also said he is clearer on where that chapter sits in his life.
It is a change in tone. Harington had previously said he would not go anywhere near the character again, as reported by IGN. He linked the shift to life after the show. He said he has done enough other projects outside Thrones that he no longer feels defined by Jon Snow alone. That distance, he suggested, made it easier to look back.
The planned spinoff, meaning a new series built around a character from an existing show, was called off in 2024. Harington said he, HBO and Thrones author George R. R. Martin had a simple pact. They would not make it without the right story. He concluded the story under consideration was not quite right.
He spelled that out in October 2024. He told ScreenRant the spinoff was cancelled and described it as "off the table" because the team could not find the right story to tell, according to ScreenRant. As of then, it was no longer in active development at HBO, meaning no writers were working it up towards a formal series order. Even at the time, he left room for a return in the future.
The idea first surfaced in June 2022. It was an unusual Thrones follow-up because it would have stayed with a central figure from the original run rather than moving to another era. Martin later revealed the project used Snow as a working title. He also said Harington had brought in the writers and showrunners, the people who oversee a series day to day.
For viewers, this changes nothing yet. There is no commission, no filming dates and no transmission slot. HBO has not announced any revival. What has changed is the actor's position. The door he closed last year is open a crack.
