Miia Tervo's You Crazy Thing Reveals First Images

First-look images have landed for “You Crazy Thing,” the third feature from Finnish writer-director Miia Tervo. Variety unveiled the stills in an exclusive published on 23 September.
The comedy drama follows Aino, a mental health nurse who prepares a performance with her patients for a talent competition. Aino is broke. She also despises the wealthy, according to a synopsis carried by Cineuropa.
Tervo told Variety the story is personal. Her mother worked in a mental hospital for 37 years and inspired the film.
Pihla Viitala, Adam Pålsson and Clara Dessau lead the cast. The ensemble mixes professional and amateur actors, a choice that puts non-professionals on screen alongside established names.
The film was produced by Marko Talli for Yellow Film & TV. It was co-produced by Paloma Production of Denmark and Garagefilm International of Sweden, making it a three-country Nordic production. Tervo previously directed “Aurora” and “The Missile.”
Festival markets have tracked it for more than a year. It was named in Göteborg’s Nordic Film Market 2025 line-up, then picked up the inaugural Film Finances Scandinavia Award at the Göteborg market, Variety reported. The prize includes €15,000. It later joined the Works in Progress selection at Haugesund’s New Nordic Films, a sidebar where unfinished cuts are shown to distributors and festival programmers.
Backing followed. The Finnish Film Foundation awarded the production €900,000, the largest single grant in that funding round, Cineuropa reported.
What makes this stand out is the mix. A talent-show set-up, a nurse at breaking point, and a cast drawn from outside the usual circuit give Tervo plenty of room to play with tone.
