York Knights have signed hooker Tom Inman on a two-year permanent deal after his loan spell clicked.

The 23-year-old stays where he finished the 2026 season. York confirmed the move following a loan stint from Newcastle Thunder, according to BBC Sport.

Inman is a hooker, the busy middle player who handles the ball out of every tackle and sets the tempo of the attack. He joined York on loan in May and went on to make 13 appearances for the Knights in 2026, according to The York Press.

Head coach Mark Applegarth said he has tracked Inman since the player was 16 at Warrington. That is a long watch. It speaks to trust.

Inman’s road to York was bumpy. He moved to Newcastle Thunder in February after Halifax Panthers were liquidated. He played 12 times for Newcastle before heading to York in May.

For fans, this means continuity. A young No. 9 who already knows the calls, the shapes and the dressing room. No bedding-in period needed.

York get energy around the ruck and a player still learning his trade. Inman gets security after a year of upheaval. That looks a fair trade.
