ABC is developing Dive, a police drama built around divers in New Orleans. The project is being developed by writer Steven Kane with 20th Television and Seven Bucks, the company run by Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia, as reported by Deadline on 23 September 2026.

The series would follow an elite team of police divers and investigators. Their cases begin where the surface ends, in rivers, lakes and flooded spaces around the city.

The show is in early development, meaning ABC is working on the idea but has not ordered episodes. No cast is attached yet.

Kane has told ABC commissioners that Dive could be franchised if it succeeds. That would mean new teams in new cities under the same title, rather than a single closed story.

Kane is known for network and cable crime drama. He previously wrote for The Closer, NCIS and Without a Trace, and co-created and executive produced TNT’s The Last Ship, with executive producer meaning a senior creative and business role.

His recent work includes running series as showrunner, the person who leads a show day to day. He was showrunner on Paramount+’s Halo adaptation and on the fourth and final season of Prime Video’s Jack Ryan, according to Deadline.

Kristina Sorenson is attached as an executive producer on Dive. Seven Bucks’ past television credits include Ballers, Young Rock and The Titan Games.

For viewers, this means a long wait. Development is the first step, and many projects at this stage never reach filming or broadcast.
