Ker'Sean Ramey, 41, was executed by lethal injection at the state penitentiary in Huntsville, Texas, on 23 September 2026 for the fatal shooting of three people during a 2005 attempted robbery. A jury had convicted him of capital murder, the charge in Texas that allows a death sentence, and sentenced him to death. He was the sixth person executed in Texas so far in 2026. The Guardian

The victims were Samuel Roberts, 24, Tiffani Peacock, 18, and Celso Lopez, 38. They shared a home in Edna, about 100 miles south-west of Houston. State prison records list the offense date as 24 August 2005 in Jackson County.

Prosecutors said Ramey acted with LeJames Norman. The two believed cocaine was inside the victims' house and hoped to steal it. The victims lived across the street from Norman. At Ramey's trial, Norman testified that he and Ramey shot the victims. Ramey's former girlfriend testified she was with him when he threw two pistols into a lake after the killings.

Lopez was shot four times, including in the back of the head. Peacock was shot twice in the head. Roberts was shot five times in the chest, neck and head.

Ramey was the second man convicted in the Jackson County triple murder to face execution. Norman pleaded guilty to capital murder and was later sentenced to death by a jury. He was executed in Huntsville on 16 September. He had no last words. No relatives or friends of the victims witnessed that execution. Fox 26 Houston

The U.S. Supreme Court rejected Ramey's final appeal hours before his execution. His attorneys argued jurors never heard that he suffered physical abuse as a child and grew up in poverty. State prosecutors described that appeal as meritless and said evidence showed an escalating pattern of criminal behavior.

Prison records identify Ramey under the full name Ker'sean Olajuwa Ramey as inmate 999519. He was convicted in 2007. Three more executions were scheduled in Texas over the two months following his death, including Jamaal Howard, inmate 999383, on 7 October 2026. TDCJ Texas Tribune

The broader context here is how Texas brought two related capital cases to a common endpoint. Ramey and Norman were co-defendants in the same offense, tried through different procedural routes and both sentenced to death. Days separated their executions. That close timing draws attention to mitigation and aggravation, which function like weights on opposite sides of a scale. One side emphasized childhood abuse and poverty not presented to jurors. The other emphasized the manner of killing and prior criminal conduct. With three more executions already on the calendar over the next two months, the pace of executions as well as the outcome in any single case will shape what observers watch next.
