Manchester United sell Old Trafford pitch pieces for £125 as first batch sells out

Manchester United are selling pieces of the Old Trafford pitch for £125 each — and the first batch has already sold out.
The club confirmed the sale on 24 September, the same day it reported overall debt of more than £1bn BBC. The price equates to about $165.49 Reuters.
What supporters get is small and carefully packed. Each souvenir is a 7x7cm square of preserved turf, set in a glass cube and presented inside a black case. The club calls them “Old Trafford Turf Cubes” and says they are available exclusively from United Store Manchester United.
The turf became available because the pitch was dug up this summer. It was stripped back to its foundation for the first time in 14 years. Old Trafford uses a hybrid surface, which means 96% natural grass strengthened with 4% artificial fibres stitched into the soil.
It is a famous patch of grass. Old Trafford has been United’s home since 1910 and is known as the Theatre of Dreams Reuters.
The financial picture around the sale is mixed. United reported record revenue of £677.6m for 2025-26, alongside an operating profit of £22.6m. That is profit from day-to-day running before interest and other costs are taken off. The club still recorded a pre-tax loss of £43m, its seventh straight annual loss The Guardian. That £43m loss was for the year ended 30 June 2026.
Part of the spending is about the future. United confirmed £63.5m was spent buying land for a new stadium. The planned ground is expected to cost more than £2bn overall.
For fans, this means a chance to keep a literal piece of shared history. Ninety minutes at Old Trafford have given generations of strangers something to feel together. Now a square of that ground can sit on a shelf.
