Dark Sky Films Lands Thriller Sender for Spring 2027 US Release

Dark Sky Films has acquired the US distribution rights to Sender, with a nationwide cinema release planned for spring 2027, as reported by Deadline.
That deal puts Dark Sky in charge of the American rollout. It will handle the launch in cinemas before the film moves to later home viewing.
Sender is a psychological thriller written and directed by Russell Goldman. It is his debut feature, and it stars Britt Lower, Rhea Seehorn, Anna Baryshnikov, David Dastmalchian, Utkarsh Ambudkar and Jamie Lee Curtis.
The story centres on a woman played by Lower who begins receiving packages, according to the Florida Film Festival listing. No further plot details have been disclosed.
The film started on the festival circuit. It had its world premiere in Narrative Feature Competition at SXSW, a juried section for new fiction films, and it is listed in the SXSW 2026 schedule in the competition presented by Kickstarter, according to SXSW.
Its run continued after Texas. Sender was selected as a Marquee Presentation at the San Francisco International Film Festival. It won jury prizes for Best Feature at both the Sidewalk Film Festival and the Chattanooga Film Festival.
Next stops are Beyond Fest for its Los Angeles premiere and the 59th Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival for its European premiere. Those dates place two genre-focused audiences ahead of the commercial release.
Behind the sale, the US agreement was negotiated by Greg Newman, executive vice president of Dark Sky Films. International sales, the business of licensing the film to distributors outside the United States, are handled by Matt Shreder of Concourse Media. Concourse had earlier picked up sales rights to the project ahead of Cannes, as reported by Variety.
The producers are Jamie Lee Curtis, Molly Hallam and Jake Katofsky. Curtis also appears in the cast. The script appeared in the 2023 Black List, an annual survey of unproduced screenplays most liked by industry executives.
What makes this stand out is the long road from page to screen. A Black List script from 2023 reached SXSW in 2026, collected two jury wins, and now has an American distributor and a spring date for 2027.
