The Love Hypothesis streams on Prime Video with Reinhart as Olive
The Love Hypothesis is streaming on Prime Video, adapted from Ali Hazelwood's best-selling book with Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith, according to Deadline. The story follows Olive through university science life and a relationship that starts as pretend. It plays for new viewers and for readers who know the book.
Reinhart's Olive agrees to fake-date Stanford professor Adam Carlsen for the benefit of her best friend Anh. Anh, Olive's best friend, is played by Rachel Marsh. Adam, played by Tom Bateman and known as Dr. Evil, goes along with the plan.
As part of that cover, Adam tells his higher-ups he is in a serious relationship and is not planning to leave Stanford University, as described in Deadline. In plain terms, he uses the relationship to signal he will stay. That lie ties their futures together.
The film's director also spoke to Deadline about filming the Chapter 16 scene and the first kiss. The interview centres on how that sequence was handled for the screen. It is presented as a key moment between Olive and Adam.
Arty Froushan plays Dr. Tom Benton, a Harvard colleague. He offers Olive a spot on his lab bench for pancreatic cancer research, in other words a place on his research team. He conditions the offer on her sleeping with him.
Later, Benton traps Olive in a hotel room under the guise of bringing her coffee. Olive leaves the encounter shaken. She initially keeps what happened private.
Olive later confesses to Anh what happened with Benton in the hotel room in a climactic scene. Reinhart told Deadline that Olive goes to Anh for comfort because Anh is her family and safe space. It is a friendship scene first.
Adam then confronts Benton about his behaviour. The confrontation is captured on social media and spreads. That recording changes how others view what happened.
For fans, this means the ending rests on two threads. One is whether Olive and Adam can move from a fake arrangement to something honest. The other is whether Olive is believed and supported after she speaks about Benton.
