Mexico president says BTS will return in 2027

BTS will return to Mexico in 2027, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Sept. 24.
She made the statement alongside South Korean President Lee Jae-myung at the National Palace in Mexico City. Lee was in Mexico for an official visit and bilateral meeting with Sheinbaum. The group had not confirmed the visit at the time of the report, Billboard noted.
The announcement follows a brief but busy May trip. BTS played three sold-out concerts at GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City as part of its ARIRANG world tour. It was the group's first appearance in Mexico in nine years.
Sheinbaum met the seven members in Mexico City on May 6, 2026. During that visit, the members appeared on a balcony of the presidential residence and greeted about 50,000 fans gathered at the Zocalo, according to Mexico City government figures. Footage of the meeting had been scheduled for release on May 27 on the group's official accounts.
Demand for those May shows was intense. In January, Sheinbaum had said more than one million fans wanted tickets for BTS concerts in Mexico City, Reuters reported. That request for more dates came months before the stadium run.
The Sept. 24 meeting went beyond music. Sheinbaum and Lee discussed trade, technology and the K-pop phenomenon. The two countries signed agreements covering culture and education. Sheinbaum said they are also considering a centre in Mexico dedicated to K-pop culture.
Mexico City is already hosting more large-scale K-pop shows. Stray Kids are scheduled to play two shows at GNP Seguros Stadium on Sept. 25-26 for an event billed as STRAYCITY.
For fans, this means a wait for details. No dates, venues or ticket plans for a 2027 BTS return have been confirmed by the group. Any announcement would need to come from BTS or its label.
