Hannah Einbinder was arrested on Thursday while protesting an appearance by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York.

The protest coincided with Netanyahu's address to the U.N. General Assembly, the annual meeting of world leaders in New York. Variety reported the arrest on 25 September.

Einbinder was protesting alongside Sarah Sherman and Susan Sarandon, among others. The group blocked the entrance to the U.N. building in Manhattan. They were detained by the New York Police Department, according to reports of the 24 September demonstration.

The action was a Jewish Voice for Peace demonstration, The Guardian reported. It was held to oppose Netanyahu's speech to the General Assembly and in support of the Palestinian people. Deadline reported that Einbinder and Sarandon were detained while blocking the entrance.

During the demonstration, Einbinder chanted "arrest Netanyahu," The Advocate reported. Politicians were also among those taken into custody outside the U.N., according to early police accounts cited by U.S. News.

Those early accounts put the number arrested at at least 30. The most recent figure comes from The New York Times, which reported about 100 arrests at the protest. Netanyahu addressed the demonstrators in his speech, calling them "phony human rights protestors."

After the arrest, Einbinder posted about the protest on her Instagram story. She urged followers not to mistake what she called the spectacle for the story. She asked them to focus on what she described as Israel's "devastating genocidal war against the people of Palestine and Southern Lebanon."

That language was her own. No further details about charges or release have been confirmed.
