Venice Winner Alexandros Avranas to Direct Greek Remake of Brazil's The Others

Alexandros Avranas will direct the Greek version of Brazil's drama series The Others, which is now in production.
The news was reported by Variety on 25 September 2026. It puts a Venice-winning filmmaker in charge of a mainstream television remake.
Avranas won the Silver Lion for best director at the Venice Film Festival for Miss Violence. The Silver Lion is the festival's prize for directing.
The Others was created and written by Lucas Paraizo for Globoplay, Globo's streaming service. It follows two neighbouring couples whose lives clash after a fight between their teenage sons. The format is simple and portable. Two families. One incident. Fallout that keeps spreading.
The Greek edition comes from a format sales agreement signed in late 2024 between Alpha TV and Globo. That type of deal sells the rights to remake a show locally, rather than selling the finished episodes. Alpha TV is the Greek broadcast channel. The local version is produced by Primavisione.
The cast is led by Maria Nafpliotou, Charis Fragoulis, Nikos Psarras and Paschalis Terzis. Psarras plays Petros. Terzis plays Ektoras.
Paraizo has visited the Greek set during production in Greece, according to the same report. Angela Colla is Head of International Business at Globo. Christos Kompos is Program Director at Alpha TV.
Greece will also get a second Brazilian remake from the same partners. A local adaptation of the telenovela All The Flowers, a long-running serial drama, is planned from the same production company and broadcast channel.
What makes this stand out is the fit. Avranas built his name on intense family stories on film. The Others lives in that same territory on television, only with new streets, accents and neighbours.
